Inspiring photography and lighting techniques

For the transition into womanhood (the last phase), I would like to have dramatic high contrast lighting and shadows on the figure. But I also need some shots that are lighter (or brighter) that have a shimmer our glow to express the outcome of positive growth and confidence.

I like the use of textures and movement in the Kenven Penardy shot. The background is similar in style to the look I'm going for.

I like the stop motion style used in areas here. I also like the idea of cutting out some parts of the figure. I would like my piece to be more of an abstract and intriguing piece and not have the figures (live action) be so literal or in your face, but at the same time I need to convey the message clearly. I would like the attention to be what is going on around the figure, but also to make it clear that these things are related to the central figure and each point of transformation and growth.

Synopsis

Coming into adolescence from childhood and entering womanhood is a very complex and emotional time in a female's life. One may experience a roller coaster of emotions stemmed from issues pertaining to spirituality, cultural identity, sexual responsibility, health and social etiquette, insecurity, peer pressure and more.

The transitional period from childhood through womanhood can be considered a "journey". The female is physically and emotionally developing as she travels through each phase of her life.

Thesis Statement

My concept is the transition into womanhood. Womanhood is defined as the period in a female's life after she has transitioned from girlhood, at least physically, having passed the age of menarche. This project will be a motion graphics piece that will transmit an emotional concept with use of live action, compositing and effective pacing to convey a sense of physical and emotional growth over time. The piece will have three main phases (childhood, adolescence, womanhood). Visuals such as organic shapes, flowers and vinery, textures, generated effects, patterns and color in each transition or phase of development will define the steps to maturity. The desired style will be modern, symbolic, including a combination of illustrations, graphics and live action. Each scene will naturally transition into the next as the central figure physically and emotionally develops, guiding the viewer through the phases towards womanhood. The conclusion of the piece will express emotions of triumph, confidence and beauty.
